Building Stronger Connections: Mercer’s Safety Seminar and Driver Forum

Todd Felty, Safety Director, helps open the dialogue between multiple touchpoints

At Mercer Transportation, we believe that transparency, open communication, and strong relationships are the foundation of a successful trucking operation. That belief was on full display at this year’s Safety Seminar and Driver Forum, held in the Building 8 Warehouse. It was a gathering that brought together owner-operators, agents, and management to bridge the gaps in understanding and strengthen the Mercer community.

An Open Dialogue: The Driver Forum

We had agent come from all over to share their insight and answer questions from the fleet.

Rarely do trucking companies provide the level of transparency that Mercer does. Our open-door policy is not just a phrase—it’s a practice we uphold every day. The Driver Forum is a prime example of this, as agents from all over the country traveled to join us and share their perspectives with our owner-operators. This year, we split our session into two focused discussions.

The first group discussion centered on the relationship between drivers, customers, and agents. Agents from various offices fielded direct questions from our owner-operators, ensuring that nothing was off the table. These open conversations helped everyone gain a better understanding of how and why certain decisions are made, ultimately strengthening the trust and collaboration necessary to keep our business running smoothly.

Mercer is a service business, and at its core, service is about people. By maintaining a level of transparency among all parties involved, we create an environment where strong bonds can form, trust is built, and success is shared. When drivers, agents, and customers work together with a clear understanding of each other’s roles and challenges, the entire operation benefits.

Breaking Bread Together

After an insightful forum, it was time to step away from the conversation and enjoy a meal together. Shack in the Back catered a delicious brunch for everyone in attendance, providing the perfect setting for drivers, agents, and staff to connect on a more personal level. Moments like these—sitting side by side, sharing a meal, and exchanging stories—are what make Mercer more than just a company. We are a family.

Prioritizing Safety

With full stomachs and strengthened connections, it was time for the safety meeting, led by our Safety Director, Todd Felty, and his team. Safety is at the core of everything we do, and these meetings are a crucial opportunity to provide updates, clarify policies, and ensure our drivers have the resources they need to operate safely and efficiently.

Todd and his team covered recent safety policy changes, provided advice on passing inspections smoothly, and took questions from the audience. No concern was too small, and no question was too tough—our entire safety team, along with department and general managers, stood ready to provide answers. The turnout was impressive, with a large crowd of owner-operators taking advantage of the opportunity to voice their concerns and gain valuable insights directly from Mercer’s leadership.

A Commitment to Our Community

Events like the Safety Seminar and Driver Forum reaffirm what makes Mercer unique—our unwavering commitment to fostering open lines of communication and building meaningful relationships. These discussions aren’t just meetings; they are opportunities to strengthen the bonds that keep Mercer running smoothly.

To everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success—thank you. Your participation and willingness to engage in open and honest conversations are what make Mercer Transportation the strong, connected company that it is today. We look forward to continuing these conversations and growing together as a team.

Until next time, stay safe and keep the wheels turning!
