A Day for Family, Fellowship, and Fried Chicken: Mercer’s Annual Company Picnic at Huber’s Family Farm

Each fall, the Mercer family gathers for one of our most beloved traditions: our annual company picnic at Huber’s Family Farm. It’s a day dedicated to family, fellowship, and fun and a chance for everyone who makes Mercer what it is to slow down, laugh together, and celebrate another year of hard work.

This year’s picnic was no exception. The weather couldn’t have been better — blue skies stretched over Huber’s fields, a gentle breeze carried the sounds of live music, and the smell of fried chicken reminded everyone that sometimes the simplest pleasures make for the best memories.

As always, the afternoon began with a moment that means a great deal to all of us: celebrating our retirees. General Manager John Fallot took the mic to recognize those who’ve given so much of themselves to Mercer over the years. As each name was called, families and coworkers cheered, honoring the pride and commitment that have built our company’s foundation.

“It’s always been impressive to me that Mercer takes time to celebrate those who have put so much time into making the company what it is today, even after they move on to the next chapter,” shared Kendrick Murphy. “This year was special because many of the retirees helped me daily with my growth. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

After a round of applause and plenty of smiles, Libby Netherton and Debbie Hobbs took the stage for one of the day’s most anticipated moments, the prize drawings! Guests cheered as names were called for everything from backyard patio furniture sets and laptops to gift cards and premium Mercer merchandise. For many, it’s a highlight that captures the spirit of fun and gratitude that defines the day.

Once the prizes were handed out and everyone had their fill of Huber’s famous fried chicken, guests were free to explore the farm. From the pumpkin patch to the petting zoo, the market, and even the winery. Some enjoyed the sangria pitchers that have become a Mercer picnic favorite, while others took advantage of the photo booth and face painting to make memories with their families.

“It feels great to see people off the clock,” said Andrew Pendragon. “You can get caught up in the routine of the job sometimes, so it’s nice to just hang out with the people you’re around every day.”

“Connecting with everyone outside of work feels really nice and refreshing,” said Kaitlyn Schutte. “After spending hours in a busy office, it’s great to step outside and see my coworkers in a different light.”

“Being able to see everyone outside of the office with their families brings me joy,” added Elizabeth Bosch. “It’s laid-back, full of laughter — and realizing how good Huber’s pizza was definitely stood out!”

For Malik Shabazz, the day could be summed up in three words: “Family. Fun. Beautiful.” He added, “The fall weather made the entire experience even more special.”

Throughout the afternoon, groups of friends and coworkers spread out across the farm — some on hayrides, some with a glass of wine, and others sharing pizza and stories. It’s a simple reminder of what makes Mercer different.

“Mercer’s culture is built on teamwork and relationships,” said Kendrick. “Working relationships are fortified and taken to the next level through events like the picnic. It allows us to see our peers in a different light and gives us an understanding of why we each do it on a more personal level.”

By the time the sun began to dip behind the vineyards, laughter still echoed across Huber’s — the kind of laughter that comes from people who genuinely enjoy each other’s company.

As Andrew put it best: “Great food. Great people. Great weather. Great time.”

At Mercer, days like these are more than just a company event. They’re a reflection of who we are — a team built on relationships, respect, and gratitude. Whether you’ve been with us for decades or just joined the family, the company picnic is a reminder that at Mercer, you’re never just an employee — you’re part of something bigger.
