🎃 Mercer’s Halloween Celebration: Creativity, Camaraderie, and a Touch of Spooky 🎃

At Mercer, we know that the trucking and logistics world moves fast and can be stressful. But once a year, we hit pause — and let creativity, humor, and a little friendly competition take the wheel. Our annual Halloween Costume Contest isn’t just about costumes; it’s about celebrating the people who make Mercer exceptional, giving them a chance to connect, express themselves, and bring a smile to everyone’s day.

A Journey to Belize (Without Leaving the Office)
Stephanie Lee’s onsite workspace told a story all its own. Inspired by her personal trip to Belize, she transformed her area into a vivid escape: photos she took on the trip, hand-painted artwork, culturally inspired trinkets she collected along the way, and even a custom photo frame she made herself. Every detail reflected her pride, creativity, and the care she poured into the display. Walking past Stephanie’s desk felt like stepping into her memories — a momentary vacation in the middle of a busy workday.

Sunshine Across the Miles

For our remote workers, creativity knows no bounds. Lori Paige’s home workstation radiated warmth and joy, turning her space into a little beacon of sunshine. Even from afar, her energy and personality shone through her decorations, reminding us that being remote doesn’t mean missing out on the fun.
Classic Characters and DIY Spirit
Paige Shaw channeled classic pirate vibes with flair, while Lisa Rueve showed off her DIY ingenuity as a “Retired Motorcycle Mama.” Every costume had a story, a laugh, or a personal touch — from the spooky to the hilarious.

Spice, Scares, and Group Brilliance

Humor was alive and well, thanks to Valarie Simms, Cheryl Cox, and Shelby Corum as the Spice Girls.
Lexie Cunningham turned heads (and caused a few jumps!) with her terrifying nun costume.

Meanwhile, Accounts Payable brought smiles with their clever TicTac-themed group costume.
And the Logs department? True to their reputation, they created a full graveyard theme that was both immersive and impressive.

Walking the Haunted Halls

Judging this year’s contest was no small feat. A pair of general managers, our HR team, and marketing ventured from department to department — braving the cold and icy paths — to experience every display firsthand. Malik Shabazz, our newest HR specialist and first-time judge, stayed perfectly in character as Michael Myers, silently observing the creativity around him. Even through his mask, he couldn’t hide how impressed he was:

“I loved seeing how invested everyone was. Even staying silent as Michael Myers, I could feel the energy and excitement in each department.”

Though the walk was treacherous, seeing the dedication and personality poured into each costume and workspace made every step worth it.

Why We Celebrate
At Mercer, events like this are about more than fun. They’re about people. They give our staff the opportunity to express themselves in ways they otherwise wouldn’t, build camaraderie, and simply enjoy the moment together. We know that when people feel joy and connection, they bring their best selves to work — and that benefits everyone.

“At Mercer, we take our work seriously — but not ourselves. From the dispatch floor to remote workstations across the country, our people bring creativity, humor, and heart into everything they do. And that’s what makes Mercer, Mercer.”

Celebrating our staff is at the heart of what we do. This year’s Halloween Costume Contest was a reminder that while we work hard every day, it’s the people and the moments we share that truly make Mercer special.
