Oregon Trucking Company FAQ

Freight transportation and logistics solutions can get complicated, and we welcome you to call us with any special needs or questions.

  • What type of freight do you transport in and out of Oregon?

We handle nearly every load type moving in and out of Oregon, from full-truckload (FTL) freight, flatbed, dry van, heavy haul, and oversized shipments to military and government loads. That range serves the state’s lumber, agriculture, and manufacturing shippers, from standard palletized freight to a single oversized piece of equipment.

  • How much does shipping freight in Oregon cost?

Freight cost in Oregon depends on the distance in miles, the equipment type, the weight and dimensions of the load, and current fuel prices. Because every shipment is different, we build a custom quote for your specific lane and freight rather than quoting a flat rate.

  • Do you handle shipping insurance requirements?

Yes. Every load moves with the proper insurance coverage in place, and our carriers meet the coverage requirements for the freight they haul. Our team can walk you through the details for your shipment.

  • How long does it take to ship freight in and out of Oregon?

Transit time depends on the lane. Short runs along the I-5 corridor into Washington or California move quickly, while cross-country long-haul freight takes longer. Once your load is booked, MercerTrac gives you real-time tracking from pickup to delivery so you always know where your freight is.

  • Does Oregon have IFTA?

Not the way other states do. Oregon does not collect fuel taxes through IFTA for heavy commercial vehicles. Instead, trucks over 26,000 pounds pay Oregon’s weight-mile tax, which is based on declared weight and miles driven in the state. If you’re an out-of-state carrier without an Oregon account, you’ll need a temporary pass or trip permit before entering. IFTA decals alone won’t cover you here.

  • How do I get a freight quote for Oregon?

Send us the pickup and delivery addresses, the weight and dimensions of each piece, and what you’re shipping. Tell us if you need a liftgate, a residential or limited-access stop, or temperature control. That’s enough to price it. If you’re not sure of your freight class, we’ll figure it out from the commodity and dimensions.

  • Do trucks have to stop at Oregon ports of entry?

Yes. Any commercial vehicle at 20,000 pounds gross weight or more has to stop at open ports of entry and weigh stations, whether the trip is interstate or intrastate. The exception is carriers enrolled in Oregon’s Green Light preclearance program, who get a bypass signal and can keep rolling. Officers check your USDOT number, Oregon account, permits, and tax credentials, so missing paperwork means a delay or a citation.
